Tributes paid to the martyrs of PLA on “ATHOUBA SINGGI NUMIT”
The People’s Liberation Army, an armed wing of the RPF (Revolutionary Peoples Front) of Manipur, saluted the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to restore the lost sovereignty of Kangleipak, known as Manipur. A large number of people from various communities today paid floral tribute to the martyred PLA cadres who were killed in the infamous and deadliest gun battle between the IOF and PLA cadres at Kodompokpi in 1982 on this day at the Martyrs’ Memorial Complex located atop Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband. Those who came to pay tribute include family members of the departed PLA cadres, as well as friends and relatives from various communities across the state and RPF and its armed wing PLA, pay tribute and salute to their fallen comrades in various units, departments, stations, battalions, GHQ, and tactical commands. This is a way to honour the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the freedom and sovereignty of Manipur.
Our brave comrades who gave up their precious lives for the cause of the freedom of Mother Manipur will forever be enshrined as bright stars in the annals. The Battle of Kadampokpi shows the direction of our freedom struggle, and the heroic saga of this battle will be remembered forever. We shall follow their footsteps to our last breath without yielding an inch and continue our struggle for the freedom of our motherland until the last signpost of colonial rule is thrown out. We are also quite aware that numerous lives will be lost in this conflict, yet the struggle shall continue since the ultimate objective of this struggle is the attainment of the right to self-determination of our people and the establishment of a just and equitable social order where peace and tranquillity prevail.” “Since 1990, 13th April has been observed as ‘Martyrs’ Day’ on a grand scale by the people of this land. On this occasion, the Front appeals to the people to offer floral tributes to the memory of the hallowed martyrs by sparing some of the valuable moments at the Martyrs’ Memorial site.” “Thousands of lives of revolutionaries and civilians have been lost in this protracted freedom struggle that has been waged since 1978-79 by the RPF and other organizations. A large number of people also received casualties. In the history of Manipur’s freedom struggle and its consequent Indo-Manipur armed conflict, the sufferings experienced by the people are of high magnitude.” “At the onslaught of State terrorism, the casualties suffered by the civilian populace kept on increasing day by day as reports of fake encounters poured in from different quarters as well. It has almost become a regular feature that many are killed, tortures are rampant and cases of incarceration are rampantly unleashed. At the same time, people are compelled to suffer even to earn a daily livelihood.” “Even though most of the cases of death and casualties reported are the consequence of this conflict, yet, these are the handiwork of the enemy forces as they are committing excesses and are found indulging in extra-judicial killings like fake encounters in a regular manner. To mourn the untimely demise of the patriots and civilians by sparing a few moments with offerings of floral tributes will not only be a humble gesture of honouring the departed souls but also soothe the minds of the aggrieved families and relatives in the irreparable loss of their near and dear ones.” “It is worth mentioning that ‘so long as people are determined to strive for regaining their freedom and prepared to die for its cause, it is nigh possible for the country to remain subservient.'” “We know that India has deprived us of our freedom and sovereignty, and India shows no regard for international laws and covenants. We shall have to make India understand this even if it takes a long time lest a big void, hard to fill up, will prevail in the world forever.” “It is our belief that the erection of memorials to honour in a befitting manner the brave patriots of the land by remembering their priceless sacrifices will help in preventing the freedom and identity of the land and people from gradually slipping into oblivion.” “There is nothing to wonder about a simpleton who turned a revolutionary and gave his labour and life for the freedom of his motherland. It is a commendable example of one’s bravery, love, and commitment to the nation and its people. They have endeavoured to repay their motherland, a symbol of Mother, what she had given them.
